There is no doubt that I have a great job. I love what I do. But that does not mean that there aren't frustrations that come with being a pastor.

Today, I am going to do some griping.
Look, some people complain when I call to tell them I missed them on Sunday. They say that they are grown adults and they don't need the pastor guy calling them every time they aren't there on Sunday.

Fine. You don't want a call? I can live with that. But you are wrong about not having to worship. If you are a Christ follower, worshiping God is not an option or an issue of convenience. It is a matter of allegiance and obedience.

But I am getting off track.

Now people are complaining because I don't call them. Look some of the people complaining haven't been to church for months and not only that they are living in a way that is totally contrary to scripture.

So how many times should I call?

What should I say when I do call when I know they are living in sin and haven't been to church for months?

So here's the deal. I'm just gonna keep on loving folks, praying for folks, and doing my best to be a godly pastor.

And I'd like to ask you for a favor. Just show up and serve God and His people and we've got no problems.

I think there may be a little bit of defensiveness there. By and large, basically good people, seekers, in this culture, are simply Not likely to appreciate being held accountable, not by their pastor or anyone else. How do you think we got into the financial crisis this country currently faces? Nobody wants to be accountable. It's the bank's fault. It's the crooked real estate agent's fault. No one is responsible for their own choices or their own greed or their debt. In this particular case of Christian accountability I think it springs from spiritual immaturity. It makes me think of the Pharisees and Saducees. They were perfectly pleased with their own behavior. They certainly didn't want to be told they weren't living right - even by Jesus - especially by Jesus. What makes you think you're immune because you're a pastor? I think all we can do is just what you said: love them anyway, give them some slack, but bear with them until they "get it".

Appreciate your comments. In the end, all we can do is to keep loving folks until they "get it."
